As Paul and I are coming up on five full years of retirement, we are completely blessed to have the family and friends that surround us.
As all of you know, that read this blog, we were planning a trip for three months (to the west coast and back) which should have started March 2020. We all had to switch gears that year!
In 2023, we got to do the majority of the 2020 trip but we took our time. We decided to caption this trip as “70 days for 70 years” since we both turned 70 that year… Wait, WHAT?!? Impossible you say? For real life, this is the truth, even though we don’t look a day over 60 🙂
We were able to take some of the 2020 trip in spring 2021, enjoying the Bourbon trail, Yellowstone, Tetons and Badlands that were on the original trip list… as well as the bonus of stopping in to see Jen and Nate. In 2023, the trip was RVing to San Diego and back, 2 weeks in New Mexico for a Habitat for Humanity build, 13 National Parks, 15 states, visit with Jen and Nate, about 7500 miles and a TON of adventures!
When we returned from the trip in 2023, Paul had a bit of a cough. After many months of x-rays, tests, maybe it’s this, maybe it’s that, it was confirmed in November 2023 that he has stage 4 lung cancer that moved into his bones…. This was definitely NOT in our plans! Since then, we have been blessed with treatment options that work and Paul is kicking cancer’s butt!
We have successfully shifted gears and plan trips around his treatment schedule. We travel with gusto, wanting to see whatever we can, while never missing an opportunity to be grateful for each day and each adventure.
As we look at all we have done, there is so much more to see so follow along on our adventures (and feel free to make comments on the posts. They will not appear immediately but I will be able to see them!)
